Four Astros named all-stars

Sunday, July 4, Major League Baseball announced the All-Star selections that will participate in the Midsummer Classic in Colorado July 13 and four Houston Astros were among the honorees. Ryan Pressly, Carlos Correa and Michael Brantley will join Jose Altuve, who tied a franchise record after he earned a seventh All-Star nod.

4-H state quiz bowl winner

Austin County 4-H Quiz Bowl Teams advanced from District 11 competition and competed in the State 4-H Roundup Livestock Quiz Bowl contest June 7-10 at Texas A&M. Emma Eckelberg, Brooke Diezi, Stewart Poffenberger and Morgan Hesters represented Austin County and rocked the contest to earn the title of State Champion Team.

As the football regular season inches closer, the Katy 7-on-7 league that members of the Sealy Tigers have been participating in enters the final week of exhibition play. Last week, Sealy won both of its games over Mayde Creek and Jordan.

Texas’ CWS run ends

Sealy High School alumnus Justin Eckhardt and the University of Texas Longhorn baseball team found the end of the road just a step away from the College World Series Final last Saturday. Texas won both of its Super Regional games against the University of Southern Florida at home then took off to Omaha, Neb.

Just place in the pole vault event 10 days after he took fourth at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships at the University of Oregon, Sealy High School alumnus Clayton Fritsch returned to the pacific northwest to jump for a spot on the United States Olympic team ahead of the 2020 Tokyo games.
