Austin County was well represented at the University Interscholastic League’s track and field state championships May 6 at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.
With an 8-4 win over Splendora at Montgomery High School last Friday, the Sealy Lady Tiger softball squad collected an Area Championship and advanced to the regional quarterfinals for the first time since 2018.
The 14th-ranked Blinn College women’s golf team entered the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship for the first time in program history. The Buccaneers placed second in the Region XIV tournament and earned their berth to nationals thanks in part to Sealy High School alum Madeline Goad.
The Sealy Lady Tigers secured a 24-2 win in the bi-district round of the playoffs over Houston Wheatley through the rain last Thursday at home. Sealy will head to Montgomery High School this Friday, May 7, to face Splendora in the area round.
The Sealy Tigers’ boys’ doubles pairing of Cameron Eschenburg and Norman Juarez won third place from the Region III Championships in Bryan last week. They will serve as alternates to the state championships which will be held May 20 and 21.

The Sealy Lady Tiger soccer team that finished second in District 20-4A and fell in the bi-district round of the playoffs had four student-athletes earn academic all-state distinction from the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Three athletes associated with the Sealy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dojo earned medals from the Grappling Games’ Houston Summer Games at The Zone last weekend. Luke Richards (185-plus pound, 16-17 year old division) and Lydia Clark (129.9 or less pound, 10 year old division) won their brackets with a gold medal and Zoe Clark (84.9 or less pound, 9-11 year old division) earned a silver medal.
The Faith Academy Knight baseball team closed its regular season with a 3-2 win over Texas Connection Academy last Tuesday and finished with a 3-4-1 overall record. The Knights stole the lead in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Neil Johnston which broke a two-all tie.
