The Brazos High School athletic department hosted summer youth camps for elementary through junior high school student athletes last week. Head football coach Ryan Roecker and head volleyball coach Amanda Hatton, as well as their respective staff, took advantage of droves of campers who spent parts of their last weeks of summer putting in work ahead of the season. Roecker reported more than 120 athletes attended the first day’s sessions Monday, July 26, between over 70 football campers and over 50 volleyball campers. For more pictures, visit sealynews.com.

The Sealy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dojo had three representatives at last weekend’s Grappling Summer Slam tournament at the Zone Sportsplex in Houston and two came away with gold medals from their bracket.

Nearly 100 studentathletes from elementary school to incoming freshmen participated in the first days of the Sealy Tiger Youth Football Camp at Sealy High School this week. Skye Youngblood, representing Cat Spring, racked up a host of awards at the National Rifle Association National Competition at Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh, IN, earlier this month as the youngest competitor at 14 years old. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine predicts the Bellville Brahmas will claim the District 12-4A- D2 crown behind preseason all-state athletes Richard Reese and Robert Briggs. Linebacker Tyler Fishbeck was also named the preseason defensive MVP of the district.

The Houston Astros entered this week of play off a sweep of the interstate rival Texas Rangers to help bolster their first-place lead in the American League West. Houston started a west-coast road trip at the start of this week with stops scheduled in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles before returning to Minute Maid Park to face the Minnesota Twins Aug.

Larry Kuciemba, left, Chrissy McGee, right, and the Sealy American Legion and Friends of the Sealy American Legion Post #442 recently presented a donation to Karen Adamcik, chairman of court scholarship committee, Dorothy Bodle, chairman of CDA State memorial scholarship committee and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Queen of Angels #1538 Wallis.

The Sealy girls pee wee All-Star team competed in their district tournament June 4-12 and finished third out of 12 teams. The only games the team lost were to the first- (Washington County) and second-place (Bellville) winners.

Heading into the 2021 season, the Sealy Tigers were picked to finish second in District 12-4A-D2 according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. The team also checked in at No. 24 in the preseason rankings for division two.
