Cougarettes win 2nd

The Brazos Cougarette volleyball squad competed in the Schulenburg Tournament last weekend and came away with a 7-1 record and second-place finish. Senior Meagan Demny and junior Haiven Harris-Alvarado were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts. Brazos was set to face Bellville earlier this week before it competes in the Anderson-Shiro Tournament this weekend to wrap up tournament play. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

Coming off a home scrimmage against Columbus last week, the next time the Sealy Tiger football team hits Mark A. Chapman Field at T.J. Mills Stadium, it will be for Friday’s regular-season opener against the Brazosport Exporters at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Knights split week

Body
The Faith Academy Lady Knight volleyball squad split last week’s action with a win over Royal and a loss to Sealy JV in non-district play. The Lady Knights took three of four sets (25-19, 16-25, 25-21, 25-13) from Royal where head coach Deborah Boudoin said the team took a step forward.

Tigers host Friday Night Lights

The Sealy cross country team opened the season with a host meet last Friday night and came away with the team championship in the JV girls’ and varsity boys’ divisions. The Tigers hosted two regular-season meets last year but this year’s Frio Friday Night Lights meet changed the course up a bit where the finish line was on the softball field for the runners to own their moment in the limelight.
