The Texas Girls Coaches Association held its annual banquet last weekend in Arlington and Austin County was represented at the state level by two coaches of the year and three all-stars. TGCA, the largest association of girls’ athletics in Texas, awarded coaches of the year at the sub-varsity and middle school levels for basketball, cross country, track, softball and volleyball and split up the honorees between Classes 1A-4A and Classes 5A and 6A.

CDA celebrates birthdays

Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Queen of Angels #1538 Members, Barbara Grigar and Gladys Jurecek visited Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Sealy, June 21. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ladies were not permitted to go inside but they dropped off gifts (lapaghans) for the birthdays and three fruit cream cheese rolls for all to enjoy. There were six birthdays last month.

The Austin County Grand Jury returned indictments against 15 people in the June 30 session. Those indicted include: Terrence Deshaun Campbell, engaging in organized criminal activity.

Martin named USDA-NRCS Deputy State Conservationist

J.B. Martin, conservation agronomist at the Central National Technical Support Center for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Fort Worth, Texas, and currently acting director of the USDA Southern Plains Climate Hub, has been named the deputy state conservationist for the USDA NRCS in Temple, Texas.
