In the first district meeting between Austin County rivals this season last Friday night, junior Neelie Schiel provided the game-winning layup with 8.8 seconds remaining in the game to lift the host Bellville Brahmanettes over the Sealy Lady Tigers, 50-48.

Thanks to an insurance goal from freshman Rebeca Garza with 19 minutes left to play, the Sealy Lady Tigers secured a 2-1 win over the Needville Lady Jays Monday night at T.J. Mills Stadium. For the first time in nearly nine years, the Sealy Tiger boys’ basketball squad eclipsed the century mark in a game and took a 109- 14 decision over the Brazosport Christian Eagles at home last Saturday afternoon. Sealy improved to 6-3 with the win while Brazosport Christian fell to 1-11.
With a last-second field goal that secured a 41-38 win for Tennessee over Houston, the Texans’ struggling season has mercifully ended with a 4-12 overall record. Because of an earlier trade for their firstand second-round picks in the upcoming draft in exchange for offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil, the Miami Dolphins will have the third overall selection in April’s draft while Houston isn’t slated to make a pick until the third round.
The Bellville Brahmanette girls’ basketball squad played their district-opening contest earlier this week on the road against the Wharton Lady Tigers who entered the week with a 3-3 record. Bellville began the week with a 4-6 overall record after dropping its previous two contests in Somerville (47- 30) and at home against Weimar (53-47).
Both Sealy soccer squads kicked off their respective regular seasons this week when the Lady Tigers hosted Bay City Tuesday evening while the Tigers will travel to Bay City Friday evening. Each of the teams will play three non-district games, as well as a tournament, before the fight for playoff position within District 20-4A begins.
With a 64-50 win over Edna last Saturday to start 2021, the Sealy Tiger boys’ basketball team opened this week of play with a 4-3 overall record. Sealy traveled to Magnolia earlier this week to face Legacy Prep Christian Academy and will host Brazosport Christian this Saturday afternoon.
