Sealy ends round one in first

Both Sealy Tiger soccer teams finished the first round of play within District 20-4A with their six wins good enough to top the standings entering play this week. Last week, the Lady Tigers took down Bellville 1-0 Monday and beat Royal 4-1 Friday to move into a tie for first place with Navasota and Bellville with identical 6-1 district records.

Lady Tigers open season

The Sealy Lady Tiger softball team was set to open the regular season earlier this week at home against Hallettsville. Before that, Sealy faced Rice and Bay City in scrimmage action last week and Head Coach Brittney Whitehead was already starting to see improvements from the first scrimmage of the preseason Feb.

Clark, Krenek add all-state honors

Sealy’s Connor Krenek (utility) and Thomas Clark (linebacker) were honorable mentions on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State team released Friday morning.

Krenek was District 12-4A’s utility player of the year and Clark was a first-team all-district wide receiver and linebacker for the Tigers. Krenek represented Sealy on the THSCA first-team academic all-state and Thomas Clark landed on the second-team academic all-state.

PLAYOFF TICKET PUNCHED

Sealy senior Evelyn Harrington led a Lady Tiger comeback with 11 fourth-quarter points to help her team take down rival Bellville 43-39 in its final home game last Friday. It was merely the cherry on top after Sealy punched its ticket back to the postseason for the first time since the 2017-2018 season with a 36-23 win over El Campo last Tuesday.

Bounce-back win

Sealy’s 1-0 win over Bellville Monday was the Lady Tigers’ first victory in the rivalry matchup according to MaxPreps’ records that date back to the 2010- 2011 season. It snapped an eight-match losing streak over four regular seasons.
