While Major League Baseball struggles with its lockout, Bellville alum and New York Yankees pitcher Lucas Luetge has been taking advantage of more time at home while balancing his training.
Sealy senior Luke Kovar signed his commitment to play baseball for the Arlington Baptist Patriots during a March 2 ceremony in the high school gym foyer. Kovar was joined by family, friends, classmates and teammates in signing the dotted line.
The Faith Academy Knights grabbed the lead late in a 6-3 victory over the Brazosport Christian Eagles last Friday. The game was tied at three with the Knights batting in the bottom of the fifth when junior John Poorman was hit by a pitch to drive in a run.
The Faith Academy Track team competed in the Leopard Relays at La Grange High School last Thursday. Faith Academy was the only private school, the smallest team at the meet with only six athletes (five boys, one girl) and competed in the JV Division against squads from La Grange, Cameron, Schulenberg, Fayetteville, Giddings, Columbus, Weimar and Flatonia.
Caleb Smidt’s tie-down roping competition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is underway. He won the second round in the Super Series I last Tuesday and qualified for Semifinal 1 scheduled for March 16.
The Faith Academy Junior High and High School basketball teams participated in the Texas Association of Independent Athletic Organizations’ State Tournament in Round Rock last month. Although both teams played well and improved their scoring, they came up short.
Eleven Sealy Lady Tigers competed in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s Region 2 Division 2 Championship in Dublin last Friday and three earned a trip to the state meet. Ana De La Portilla (148-pound class), Mason Infante (181) and Jenyfer Sanchez (220) all used top-three finishes in their respective weight classes to punch a ticket to March 17’s State Championship in Corpus Christi.
Both Sealy soccer teams have started the second round of play within District 20-4A unbeaten following wins over Rice and Dis covery last week as well as Columbus earlier this week. The Tigers beat Rice 8-0 last Tuesday, Discovery 5-0 Friday and Columbus 6-1 Monday.
Sealy High School alum and Sam Houston State senior Clayton Fritsch competed in the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships last weekend in Washington and just missed the qualifying mark for the World Championships in pole vault.
