Sealy senior Karsen Anderson fires a fadeaway, baseline jumper during the Tigers’ home finale against Wharton Feb. 11. The Sealy Tiger basketball team found the end of the road last Tuesday night in Brookshire where the Falcons earned a 66-43 win to eliminate Sealy from playoff contention. Anderson, as well as classmates Logan Eschenburg, Myki Harris and Connor Krenek, closed their Tiger basketball careers. COLE McNANNA

Sam Houston senior Clayton Fritsch not only claimed the Western Athletic Conference pole vault championship last weekend in New Mexico but he also set the conference’s all-time indoor record and the meet record with a final clearance of 18’ 9.5” (5.73m).

The Sealy Tiger tennis squad hosted a quad match with East Bernard, Rice and Columbus last Wednesday at Sealy Junior High. The Tigers have three regular-season matches remaining before the district championship.

The Sealy Lady Tiger softball team opened the regular season last week and will head to the Spring Branch Tournament this weekend for more early-season action. Sealy opened its 2022 campaign with a 14-0 loss to Hallettsville last Tuesday at home before competing in a tournament in Katy this past weekend.

Last week in Brazos sports, baseball and softball teams scrimmaged and both basketball teams honored their seniors. This week in Cougar sports, the Brazos golf teams opened their seasons and the tennis squad competed against Sweeny.

Sealy’s Connor Krenek (utility) and Thomas Clark (linebacker) were honorable mentions on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State team released Friday morning. Krenek was District 12-4A’s utility player of the year and Clark was a first-team all-district wide receiver and linebacker for the Tigers.

Senior Sealy Tiger basketball players competed in their final home game last Friday against Wharton and fell on a buzzer-beating shot 53-50. Sealy’s postseason remained on the line going into Tuesday’s regular-season finale against the Royal Falcons.

The Sealy Tiger nine hit the field for live competition for the first time last Tuesday with scrimmages against Burton and Brazos at home. Sweeny also traveled to Aubrey “Mutt” Stuessel Stadium for a Friday night scrimmage to close the week of play.
