Sealy High School alumnus Clayton Fritsch wrapped up his indoor pole vaulting career at Sam Houston State University with a third-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Nationals in Alabama last weekend. The top finish marked Fritsch’s fifth All-American honor in what was his final indoor meet for the Bearkats.

After the basketball season came to a close, all-district awards were released and there were plenty of Sealy athletes who earned recognition. For the Lady Tigers, senior Evelyn Harrington was District 24’s Offensive MVP and sophomore Taniah Coleman was the district’s Newcomer of the Year.

Students from Maggie B. Selman Elementary and Sealy Elementary competed in a variety of UIL events against Bellville ISD in early February. Students have been dedicated and practicing for many months before and after school. Their hard work and determination paid off, as over 80 SISD students took home either a ribbon or a medal. Last week in Brazos sports, six Cougarettes qualified for the state powerlifting championship and the track teams hosted the Cougar Relays. At the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s Region 2 Division 3 Championship in Dublin March 3, Brazos’ Jemma Zahradnik (114-pound class), Jessica Ramos (148), Joanna Ramos (181), Tiona Steward (220) and Marlena Nunn (259+) all punched their ticket to the state championship as the third representative from their respective weight classes.

While Major League Baseball struggles with its lockout, Bellville alum and New York Yankees pitcher Lucas Luetge has been taking advantage of more time at home while balancing his training.

Sealy senior Luke Kovar signed his commitment to play baseball for the Arlington Baptist Patriots during a March 2 ceremony in the high school gym foyer. Kovar was joined by family, friends, classmates and teammates in signing the dotted line.
