According to information from Sealy Police Department, Interstate 10 mainlaines are scheduled for closure tonight, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7:00 p.m., until Friday, Sept. 2, at 5:00 a.m. between Chew and Mlcak Roads.

The purpose of the closure is to remove the Mlcak overpass bridge spanning over IH10.

Just east of the business strip on Highway 36 in Wallis sits a pair of businesses run by two brothers, Mubeen and Azeem Walimomin. The brothers have been a part of the community since they were children and have formed relationships with the community members they have served over the years.

The Texas House approved an elections bill Friday along party lines with 21 Democrats declining to participate. The bill, slightly different from previously passed Senate legislation, now heads to a conference committee that will negotiate a final version.

The Blinn College District officially opened its state-of-the-art, 72,000-square-foot Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation (STEI) Building on the Blinn College-Brenham Campus Friday with a special grand opening ceremony Friday, Aug. 27.

The SlussShack Daiquiris To Go had its grand opening last week at 203 Meyer Street, Suite 200, in Sealy with daiquiri and food options. Thirsty patrons can choose from nearly 30 flavors of daiquiris, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and hungry patrons can choose from an assortment of grilled cheeses, soups, salads and flatbread pizzas for dine-in or carryout. Children’s options are also available. Owner Brenton Slusser said they will soon be on the Waitr food delivery app and thanked the early visitors for their support and patience.

Although the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) had record of nine fewer active cases of COVID-19 to start this week in Austin County compared to the previous week, two more fatalities were reported to bring the total to 41.

The Sealy ISD Board of Trustees approved black budgets and a lowered tax rate during August’s meeting at the Administration Building last Wednesday. At the public hearing that preceded the regular meeting, CFO Lisa Svoboda presented the M&O budget with an excess of $7,457, the I&S budget with an excess of $310,954 and a food services budget with an excess of $19,550 which were all approved unanimously.
