A California family still has several unanswered questions involving the death of an inmate in the Austin County Jail. Quincy Williams, 29, died in the Austin County Jail March 11 and the family said they still have not received answers to many of their questions.

Sealy Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry March 17 The Sealy Knights of Columbus will be serving their Lenten Fish Fry Dinner Friday, March 17 at the Sealy Columbus Club Hall, located at 1310 Hwy 90, in Sealy. Dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m.- 7:15 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sealy Pregnancy Center.

Texas Attorney General Paxton announced plans to enter into a $5.034 billion multistate settlement with CVS Pharmacy for its role in the nationwide opioid epidemic, with over $276 million designated for Texas. The agreement will largely track the terms of the Global Prescription Opioid Litigation Settlement Agreement with opioid distributors that was executed in July 2021.

During the bi-monthly meeting of the Sealy City Council an amendment was passed, allowing Austin County Election Department early voting and election day voting, at W. E. Hill Community Center. The city also adopted an ordinance declaring unopposed candidates’ positions and canceling the 2023 General Elections.

Austin County resident Daniel Kelly addressed the Court regarding a sound ordinance. He relayed frequent complaints he has made to the Sheriff’s Department, about distressing and disturbing loud music coming from a neighbor’s property. Kelly read several dates and time periods, (going back to Christmas Eve of last year), that the loud music had occurred. He stated that his wife worked during the week, and the late night and sometimes all-night music, was so disturbing that even wearing earplugs and earmuffs, she could not rest and was driven to tears.
