January The Sealy Police Department reported a surge of catalytic converter thefts directly from vehicles across Sealy in the past few weeks has cost victims thousands in replacement costs. Thieves have been known to slide under cars or trucks and remove the device within minutes, often in search of the valuable platinum, palladium and rhodium inside.

The Austin County Grand Jury returned indictments against nine people in the Nov. 30 session. Those indicted include: Dharry Klinern for theft of property; James William Barnett, failure to comply sex offender duty to register; Jacky Brandon Birdwell, possession of controlled substance; Derek Vaughn Dabney, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; Ricardo Galindo, possession of controlled substance; Christina McCain, possession of a controlled substance; Steven Mikulencak, evading arrest, detention with vehicle; Modesto Pineda-Camacho, possession of controlled substance; Forrest Bruce Watson, theft of property.
