China Spring shuts down Sealy 48-7

The China Spring Cougars stymied the Sealy Tigers early and often and rolled to a 48-7 win in the Area Championship at Waco ISD Stadium Friday night to eliminate Sealy for the second straight season.

The Tigers served as the visitors at the neutral site and although both teams traded three-and-outs on their first drives, Tristan Exline pulled down an interception on the third play of Sealy’s second drive and Kyle Barton cashed in on the other end to open the scoring.

Sealy Lady Tigers open season

The Sealy Lady Tiger basketball squad opened its regular season at home last Tuesday with a 62-54 loss to Class 6A’s Houston Westside Wolves. Head Coach Anthony Branch and Assistant Coach Danielle Eschenburg ended the cross country season three days prior and got only one practice with the full roster that features a majority of cross country runners and volleyball players who ended their season the prior Thursday.

Gridiron Guru winner

Cliff Jones RV Owner Jim Pursley was awarded the championship banner created by the Sealy High School Ag Department as the winner of the Gridiron Guru football pick ’em tournament against other local businesses. Pursley correctly predicted the winners of 71.9% of the 107 games picked this year and previously won the Gridiron Guru crown in 2018. Pictured with Pursley are Amanda Luksha and Shawn Brennan.

Knights advance to state semis

The Faith Academy Knights traveled to Marble Falls last Friday to take on Odessa-Permian Co-op Homeschool in the second round of the Texas Association of Independent Athletic Organizations (TAIAO) playoffs. With a 62-6 win, Faith Academy advanced to the state semifinal this Friday against San Antonio Jubilee at SAB Stadium in Bellville at 7 p.m.
