Friday, Dec. 10, the Faith Academy Lady Knights took on the McDade Lady Bulldogs in a varsity contest at Beth Keaton Gym on the Faith Academy campus in Bellville.
After the Tidehaven Tigers were eliminated in the regional semifinals of the playoffs, the District 14-3A- D2 awards were handed out and Brazos Cougar seniors Bryan Maldonado and Elijah Johnson were named the Utility Players of the Year.
The Sealy Tiger basketball team hit the floor to open its regular season last week with a nondistrict tilt against Columbus on the road Nov. 30 before a tournament in Caldwell last weekend.
The Sealy Lady Tiger basketball squad dropped its lone non-district game last week then won two of six tournament games over the weekend in Ganado. Sweeny took the nondistrict contest by a 62-34 final score before Sealy won tournament games over Odem (56-41) and Lehman (45-33) and lost tilts against La Grange (42-32), Columbus (54-39), Hallettsville (23-20) and Weimar (31-30).
Eleven Sealy Tiger football players closed their high school careers with academic all-state distinction as awarded by the Texas High School Coaches Association and Army National Guard. The lists were broken up into first-team, second-team and honorable mentions for student-athletes who maintained an overall GPA of 92 or above in courses from grades 9-11 and courses completed in grade 12.
