Texas completes citizenship verifications in the SAVE database

AUSTIN — Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson announced that her office has completed a full comparison of the state’s voter registration list against citizenship data in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ SAVE database.

Sealy dominates district, heads to regionals

There will be a community sendoff event being held Monday, Oct. 20 at 1:15 p.m. as the Sealy Tigers cross country teams head off for the Regional Tournament.

The program, under the direction of head coach Danielle Eschenburg and assistant coach Val Eschenburg captured first place at the District meet as both were crowned district champions.

AC Fair Auction nets $2.4 million

Austin County residents turned out for the Austin County Fair Auction with bids totaling $2.4 million for the Youth Auction Sale. This kind of support shows that the county firmly stands behind their FFA students and their projects and gave them a much-needed pat on the back for their hard work.

Honoring an era

It’s almost impossible to believe that 30 years have passed since the Sealy Tigers won their second consecutive class 3A state football championships in 1995. And before that run was completed, the Tigers compiled a 63-1 record and were the first team ever to win four in a row state championships in Texas.

County issues burn ban

Austin County Commissioners voted to issue a burn ban for the unincorporated areas of the county during Monday’s meeting. Commissioners cited the reason for the burn ban was due to dry conditions and increased fire danger.
