The Austin County Commissioners Court appointed board members to Emergency Service District (ESD) No. 1 for two-year terms after concerned residents spoke against it for a third consecutive meeting Monday, Jan. 14.

Voters began their trips to local early voting locations for the 2022 primary elections Monday, Feb. 14. As of press time, no early-voting data was available but stay tuned to sealynews.com for continued coverage throughout the election season.

It was 12 months ago this week when thousands of Austin County residents were left without power as Winter Storm Uri halted daily life with a layer of ice across much of Texas. When Winter Storm Landon arrived earlier this month, it brought flashbacks of the unexpected winter weather that preceded it by a year although Landon was not around for as long.

Two Texas residents were arrested in connection to methamphetamine trafficking after an investigation led officers to their residences Thursday morning, according to a statement from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Feb. 10.

The reward for Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive Joshua David Whitworth, who is also this month’s featured fugitive, has been increased to $8,500 for information leading to his arrest if tips are received during the month of February.

Wednesday, Feb. 2, Faith Academy Pre-School hosted a “Super Hero Donut Breakfast” for Austin County law enforcement. At the event, the pre-school students and staff presented deputies with gift bags full of treats and useful items. Each bag was made by a student who placed individualized items in their bags.
