BISD attempting to retain teachers

The Brazos Independent School District Board of Trustees met on April 27 and discussed providing stipends of $500 in the next two December paychecks as part of a teacher retention plan after a presentation by Programs Director Teresa Ressler.

In the April 28 edition of The Sealy News it was incorrectly reported that the current bonds the Sealy City Council are considering would be placed on a ballot for a vote by citizens. These Certificates of Obligation (bonds) for the purpose of necessary public works projects do not require an election vote by residents and will be voted upon solely by the city council. According to the legal Notice of Intention to Issue Certificates published by the city, that vote will take place on June 21, 2022, during the regular city council meeting. If so, show off your prizewinning garden veggies Saturday, June 11, at the Home Grown Vegetable Contest and Program hosted by the Horticulture Committee of Austin County and Linseisen’s Feed & Supply Inc. The contest is open to the public, with no entry fee and no age limit.
Child-seat checkup at fairgrounds

BELLVILLE — Austin County residents recently had a chance to ensure their children’s car seats were properly installed and maintained during a checkup at the Austin County Fairgrounds. The dozen inspections meant at least 12 children are now riding more safely in their parents’ cars, officials said.
Food-preservation workshop offered

The Austin County-Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is holding a food-preservation workshop on Friday, June 3, in the Sealy High School home economics classroom at 2372 Championship Drive. “Preserving the Harvest” includes up-to-date techniques for both pressure and hot-water bath canning.
