Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes announced May 14 Johnathan Baraks was promoted from deputy to Sergeant. “For 13 years, Johnny has been committed to keeping the citizens of Austin County safe and promotes a positive attitude and image within the sheriff’s office,” Brandes said.

Abby Aschenbeck, Karlie Babylon, Hunter Clark, Emma Eckelberg, Colby Eschenburg, William Forrester, Chesney Johnston, Jacob Kolwes, Amador Lopez, Hope Luedeker, Grace Motal, Hannah Moyle, Kylie Pavlicek, Rhys Reichardt, Hunter Schumann, Kylee Svinky, Blake Svoboda, Jonah Taake, and Maxwell Wickens were selected as scholarship recipients from the Austin County A & M Club.

Ten students were recently honored with a pinning ceremony after graduating from the Blinn College District Veterinary Technology Program. The 2023 graduating class includes Kaylei Cooper, White Oak; Paris Foster, College Station; Nora Goodyk, College Station; Paloma Guajardo, Crandall, Texas; Clarissa Martinez, Odessa; Morgan Odom, Bryan; Elizabeth Ryan, Iola; Sarah Tarpenning, Boardman, Oregon; Lauren Tye, College Station; and Jaqueline Yanez, College Station.

On Wednesday May 17 the Westside Narcotics Task Force (HIDTA) conducted a narcotics operation that resulted in the arrest of two subjects and the seizure of drugs and a weapon. The arrests are a result of Task Force Officers investigating a drug trafficking organization operating within the Austin County / Waller County area.

The Sealy City Council deliberated Tuesday night over a handful of several different topics, including the denial of three separate agenda item requests regarding the Titus Carwash Variance. Titus Carwash were seeking approval to set the entrance of their future property back near Highway 36, as well as moving their designated pole sign and the signage on the side of the building.

The Sealy Independent School District Board of Trustees made quick work of the school board elections during last week’s monthly board meeting after students were recognized for their extracurricular accomplishments throughout the school year.
