The Coastal Plains District, part of the Sam Houston Area Council for Boy Scouts of America, hosted its much-anticipated annual Rocket Day on Oct. 21. The event, which took place at Mayorga’s Ranch in Orchard, saw a successful turnout, including over 70 Cub Scouts launching their rockets skyward.

Sealy’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) made motions for several items at their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 24, including the approval of an additional $7,000 in funding for the annual Fantasy of Lights event.

Sealy punched their ticket to the Class 4A playoffs with a resounding victory over La Marque last Friday night. Sealy will take on Silsbee Thursday, Nov.

With the aid of U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul’s office, the postal box location near Sealy’s city hall will remain open and in use.

The Brandt 1910 event venue located in Wallis shared the Halloween spirit at their Spooky Speakeasy Oct. 21, in collaboration with the Fulshear, Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Austin County Retired Teachers Association will have their next meeting Thursday, Nov. 9, at Tony’s Restaurant in Sealy at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving will be the theme for the meeting with updates on current legislation and results of the upcoming state propositions to be voted on Nov. 7. Proposition 9 is about a cost-of-living adjustment for all Texas Retirement System annuitants which are people who retired from employment in public schools.
