The Horticulture Committee of Austin County are volunteers who serve Austin County in support of horticulture education for adults. Their mission is to provide educational programs and information and promote improvement of horticultural practices in Austin and surrounding counties.

AUSTIN — Texas students who helped clean up and beautify their communities can now apply for a scholarship contest awarding $10,000. The annual Don’t mess with Texas Scholarship Contest is now accepting applications for the 2024 school year.

Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park to meet Feb. 29

The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park will meet Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Nature Center. Volunteers help Park Rangers sustain the building, trails and grounds of the park.

Local church holds Black History Month program service Every February, every year, for 28 or 29 days straight, we’re reminded of the not-so-distant past we’ve come from, and that Black History isn’t done being made.

The safety of drivers on Texas roadways is TxDOT’s top priority. A stop sign can be one of the most effective control devices when used at the right locations — as such, TxDOT will be converting the FM 3013 at FM 3538 intersection to an All Way Stop. The work is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 21, depending on weather conditions. TxDOT plans to use changeable message signs to alert drivers of the upcoming change.

Austin County voters will have the opportunity to let their voices be heard as early voting has begun in Austin County with three contested local races to be decided in the Republican primary on the ballot.
