May 5 to 11 is National Correctional Officers week and the Austin County Sheriff’s Office recognized the Austin County Jail division for completing a Defensive Tactics course held by Sgt. Rocky Bustamante of the Austin County Sheriff’s Office.
Flood victims urged caution upon returning home

As East Texas residents return to clean up their homes and businesses after extensive flooding earlier this month, the Texas Department of State Health Services urged residents and business owners to exercise caution. Among the recommendations: · Never use gasoline- powered generators or charcoal grills indoors. Keep them outside, at least 20 feet from homes to avoid possible carbon monoxide poisoning. Direct generator engine exhaust away from windows and doors · Never mix bleach with products that contain ammonia. Toxic fumes could be created.
Slavnost set for May 19 in La Grange

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) in La Grange invites all to a family Sunday Funday filled with music, food, laughter, Czech culture and remembrance during the 23rd Annual Slavnost ‘May Fest’ May 19. Festivities begin with a recognition ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The Czech Immigrants to Texas will be honored and the stones on the Immigrant Wall will be recognized.

Low turnout mars city elections in county

With a low voter turnout across the county, voters in Sealy, San Felipe and Wallis elected its city’s leaders for the new two years. In the city of Sealy, Chris Noack was re-elected to office for his position as councilmember Place 2 as he outlasted Melaney McShan by a vote of 101-63.
