Sealy will be moving to District 11-4A next season in football and will have a whole new slate of district opponents when the Tigers take the field. Sealy will compete against Bellville, Caldwell, Giddings, La Grange and Madisonville on the football fields.

Veteran journalist Jimmy Galvan has been named area editor for The Sealy News and the Colorado County Citizen, overseeing the news gathering operations at both publications. The two newspapers are known as the I-10 Group and are owned by Granite Media Partners Inc.

Austin County authorities had to talk a Bellville man out of his house after he was reportedly discharged several rounds of a weapon inside the residence. Don Nguyen, 24, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault/family violence with a weapon and booked into the Austin County Jail.

EAGLE LAKE — A task force composed of investigators from several local departments apprehended and booked a trio of alleged drug distributors in Eagle Lake in the early morning on Feb. 1 according to police.

Last week, the 2nd grade students at Sealy Elementary that won the Coin Challenge were able to give a check to the charity of their choice and they chose Burttschell Rescue Ranch. They learned all about the rescue ranch and might be asking some parents to go adopt a puppy this weekend.

Joseph Winland of Sealy was named to the University of Dallas fall 2023 honor roll for earning a semester GPA of 3.0-3.49. Winland is a Junior Business major.

Hubbard, Hudgins earn spots on All-Region Band

Brazos students Weston Hubbard and Colton Hudgins earned spots on the All-Region Band last week. Hudgins made 6th chair in the Wind Ensemble and Hubbard made 5th chair in the Symphonic Band. By ranking high enough to make an All-Region Band, they are among the top band students in our region and will represent Brazos Middle School at the Junior High All-Region Band Concert in January. The Texas Department of Public Safety announced that the Violent Offender Database is now available. This new database launched on Dec. 29, 2023 — officially going live ahead of its required Jan. 1, deadline.

The Texas Historical Commission has recognized Alley Cemetery as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical Marker. The designation honors Alley Cemetery as an important and educational part of local history.
