DPS offers Saturday driver license appointments in October

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is now offering Saturday appointments at select driver license offices statewide through the end of October. Participating offices— located in all regions of Texas— will be open for half days each Saturday through the end of the month in order to serve additional customers needing driver license or identification card renewal or replacement services by appointment only.

AAA Texas: Gas prices move In Mixed Directions

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is a penny higher than on this day last week and is 55 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3 per gallon while drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $2.65 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.19, which is three cents less when compared to this day last week and 60 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

Thunder to roll onto WT’s First United Field for All 2024 home football games

CANYON — The West Texas A&M University Football team will once again be ushered onto First United Field by the University’s live mascot, Thunder. Thunder XIV, believed to be one of only two live buffalo university mascots in the country, again will make on-field appearances at all five of WT’s home football games at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium, beginning with the home-season opener against Western Colorado University Sept.

Last week we began to look at the research findings of two neuro- physicians who conducted extensive research studying the relationship between human consciousness and “the persistent particularly human longing to connect with something larger than ourselves.” Darwinians have long argued that religion is simply a human invention that evolved to serve as a coping mechanism in a cruel world. Nietzsche even went so far as to claim that God “needs himself and makes himself necessary. He is a type of circulus vitiosus deus” (God is a vicious circle). Likewise, since religion is a mythical creation of the evolving human mind, there are striking similarities between all religions throughout history. Or so it would seem.

Bellville ISD Leader Nicole Poenitzsch named TASB 2024 Superintendent of the Year

Austin — Nicole Poenitzsch of Bellville ISD was named Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) in a special presentation Sept. 28 at txEDCON, the annual event hosted by TASB and the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). The award, which spotlights outstanding education leaders from across Texas, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
