Sealy High alum Super Bowl-bound

Sealy High School and Texas A&M alum Ricky Seals-Jones is headed to the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs after they defeated the Buffalo Bills, 38-24, in the AFC Championship game last Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. Seals-Jones is the first Sealy-born NFL player to make a Super Bowl, and the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will kick off on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. CST. The Buccaneers will become the first team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl in its home stadium.

Tigers open district with win

The Sealy Tiger soccer team opened play within District 20-4A with a 4-1 win on the road over Hempstead last Friday. Earlier in the week, Sealy traveled to Altair to face the Rice Raiders before it hosts the Harmony School of Discovery Tigers to end this week on Friday night for the first home district game of the season.

Lady Tigers dominate opener

The Sealy Lady Tiger soccer squad won its districtopening contest in convincing fashion by a 10-0 score over the Hempstead Bobcats behind four goals from freshman Rebeca Garza. Sealy traveled to Hempstead last Friday evening to open play within District 20-4A and got a strong defensive effort from senior goalkeeper Hailey Arteaga to supplement the scoring efforts.

Tennis hits courts

The Sealy Tiger varsity tennis team competed in its first tournament of the season and came away with a consolation bracket winner as well as plenty of experience for a younger team. Head coach Joni Baxley said after last season got cut short at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, she was grateful to hit the courts once again.

Sealy senior Megan Schaaf provided a put-back bucket with only 19.06 seconds remaining and the Lady Tiger defense made one last stop to secure their first win in District 24-4A play last Tuesday at home over Wharton by a 48-47 final score.
