New DSHS anti-tobacco and vaping program now online at no cost to young Texans

The Texas Department of State Health Services launched a new online anti-tobacco and vaping program this month for Texans under the age of 21 who have been referred by the courts or schools after being found in possession of tobacco products. The new E-Cigarette and Tobacco Awareness Program, or ETAP, was developed in collaboration with Texas State University’s Texas School Safety Center.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Speaker Dustin Burrows announced the creation of the Senate and House Select Committees on Civil Discourse & Freedom of Speech in Higher Education, and Lt. Gov Patrick named Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) to the Senate committee. This committee aims to address the urgent issues of bias, discourse, and the safeguarding of free speech on Texas college campuses.

Grant Walling’s experience at Bellville ISD was so amazing he wanted to ensure other students would have the same great experience. That’s why, as a junior at Bellville High School, he applied for the student representative position on the Bellville ISD school board. Now a graduate of the district, Walling was selected and served during his senior year in 2024-25.

McCaul to retire from Congress

Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul announced Sunday that he will not seek re-election in 2026. 

McCaul’s district, which represents Austin County, last won reelection in 2024, defeating his Democratic opponent by nearly 30 points. 

McCaul, who was first elected to Congress in 2004 and is serving his 11th term, told “This Week” co-anchor Martha Raddatz that he was “looking for a new challenge.”
