Late at night Friday, April 9, a fire destroyed a building at the Villa de Austin townsite at the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site. The museum confirmed the blaze consumed one of the newly constructed buildings in the townsite in a statement the following day “We are deeply appreciative of the quick and efficient response of the area emergency responders including the San Felipe-Frydek VFD, the Sealy Fire Department, the Pattison VFD, the Austin County Sheriff’s Department, Town of San Felipe officials and others,” the statement says.

The Blinn College District Marketing and Communications Department recently won two 2020 Collegiate Advertising Awards for publications marketing Blinn’s athletics and engineering programs. Blinn received the Gold Award for its 2019-20 Winter/Spring Athletics Recruiting Guide, which previewed the baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, and inaugural men’s and women’s golf seasons.

April 17, Sealy High School’s Jackson Osborne and Cody Prause competed at the UIL Region Academics meet. Through two rounds, they competed with some of the best performers in their region and grabbed spots to advance to the State UIL meet. Osborne qualified for state in the poetry category and Prause qualified in the prose category. They beat out hundreds of students across the state to be part of the top 12 performers in their category in the whole state of Texas for Class 4A. CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo awarded 275 Texas 4-H and FFA students with a $1,750 certificate, after participating in the 2021 Calf Scramble events held in Katy, Texas, earlier this month, as well as the 4-H and FFA Livestock Judging Contest in March.

Sealy FFA members recently competed in the Simbrah-Simmental Superbowl XXIX in San Antonio and earned top marks. Avery Oliver won Reserve Champion Showman and Champion of the 18-year-old Showman Division that totaled $850 in scholarships.
