The Sealy ISD Board of Trustees held an emergency meeting Monday at noon in the junior high school cafeteria to assess water damages from recent storms. Project Manager Mike Zapalac explained the junior high and administration building had more than an inch of water infiltrate the building Saturday night and Cotton Global Disaster Solutions had been on campus doing work nonstop since Sunday at 2 a.m.

A debate was sparked between new school vs. old school during Sealy City Council’s regular meeting June 1 at the W.E Hill Community Center.

After another long week of rainy weather, a downpour last Saturday night did not help drainage issues around Sealy. Interim City Manager Warren Escovy said all the rain will likely highlight more drainage-related projects needed in the city.

Last Tuesday morning June 1, Hunter Janicek was sworn in to the Sealy Police Department in the council chambers of Sealy City Hall surrounded by family, friends and co-workers. Janicek will serve Sealy PD as a Patrol Officer and he owns previous law enforcement experience with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Janicek is a graduate of Brazos High School.

Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin a hot mix overlay project Monday, June 7, in Fayette and Colorado Counties, according to a Friday release.

The process will run from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day most days next week. Corresponding lane closures will also occur:

Anglers across the State of Texas are gearing up for Free Fishing Day tomorrow, June 5. The first Saturday in June each year allows Texans to fish on any public waterbody in the state without a fishing license.
