The Austin County Commissioners Court delayed appointing board members to the Austin County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 1 for a second consecutive meeting Monday, Jan. 24, at the County Courthouse.

During last Wednesday’s meeting at the Wallis City Hall Complex, the Wallis City Council adopted a resolution that authorized Mayor Dennis Diggs and other designated signatories for a $5 million grant from the General Land Office (GLO) aimed at addressing sewer line replacement within the city.

The Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) has recognized State Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) for being a strong champion for agriculture in the Texas Legislature with the S.M. True Agricultural Champion Award.

Sunday, Jan. 23, the Bellville Police Department released photos and announced a breakin at Brookshire Brothers where three suspects entered the building but were unable to retrieve anything before fleeing the scene.

The Garden Club of Sealy recently announced the Yards of the Month for December 2021, one for businesses and one for a home. The Business Yard of the Month was chosen as the Sealy Historical Society at 211 East Main Street. The Home Yard of the Month was chosen as the Chovels at 813 N. Fowlkes Street. The Sealy News has a new publisher in Amy Lieb. Lieb, who had most recently served as the general manager, was named publisher of the News two weeks ago.

Austin County’s 4-H Livestock Quiz Bowl team consisting of four Bellville High School students officially added the title of National Champions to their list of accolades which already included an undefeated record over two years to go along with a pair of District and State Championships and much more.
