First Lady Abbott celebrates role of women in Texas’ economy

First Lady Cecilia Abbott celebrated the critical role women business leaders and entrepreneurs play in Texas’ economic success at the Round Rock Chamber’s inaugural “Women Who Mean Business” luncheon. Addressing more than 150 business and community leaders, the First Lady highlighted Texas’ 1.25 million women-owned businesses as a driving force of the state’s economy and encouraged women to invest in themselves, their businesses, and communities to inspire the next generation of Texas women.

Blinn vocational nursing student finds support from family, instructors, and St. Joseph Health Center

Anna Morehead is a big believer that “it takes a village.” That adage is usually completed with “to raise a child,” but Morehead said it also applies to her as she nears completion of the Blinn College District’s Vocational Nursing Program. Morehead, from the small Milam County community of Milano, will graduate in August from Blinn’s blended online program, which allows students to complete their theory coursework online while attending face-toface clinical and laboratory experiences.

Alley named publisher of Columbus, Sealy papers

Tressa Alley has been promoted to the position of Area Publisher for the Sealy and Columbus newspapers. The announcement was made last week by Daniel Philhower, president and CEO for Granite Media Partners. “Tressa has been with Granite since August of 2019 and has cont inually shown loyalty, professionalism, dependability, and leadership. She has helped us navigate some difficult transitions over the past few years and has remained steadfast and dedicated to the Citizen and to the Columbus community,” Philhower said. “I have offered Tressa the opportunity to take her successes in Columbus and emulate them also in Sealy.”
