Celebrating Easter

In an effort to gain more community involvement with the Sealy Historical Society, the annual Spring Fest was held last Saturday at the Sealy Historical Park at 211 East Main Street. The Spring Fest is a day filled with entertainment, old-fashioned games for the kids and demonstrations of activities from yesteryear.

The Austin County Regional Special Response team along with the assistance of ACSO K9 “Knox” participated in a joint operation to catch a wanted fugitive in Waller County. Regis Curtis, 41, was arrested and charged on a federal warrant out of Indiana for the charge of distribution of fentanyl and heroin.

House Bill 3 is scheduled to be heard on the Texas House floor this week with school vouchers a key addition to the bill. For the first time in Texas history, an apparent majority of the Texas House of Representatives are in support of the school choice proposal, ensuring it has enough votes to pass.

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has designated Lake Nasworthy, near San Angelo, as “infested” with invasive zebra mussels. This designation signifies there is an established reproducing population present in the lake.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott appointed James Mallinger to the Texas Commission on Fire Protection for a term set to expire on February 1, 2029. Additionally, the Governor appointed John Ortega and reappointed Sue De Villez, Paul Hamilton, and Brandon Wade for terms set to expire on Feb. 1, 2031. The Governor named Michael Glynn, Jr. as chair of the Commission. The Commission develops and enforces statewide fire service standards and provides education and assistance to the industry.

AUSTIN – Spring has returned and that means it’s time for catfish angling at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Neighborhood Fishin’ lakes across the state. The program provides friends and families with the opportunity to reel in catfish close to home and participate in the Texas tradition of outdoor recreation.

HOUSTON — Texans and history enthusiasts are invited to attend the official San Jacinto Day Ceremony marking the 189th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto — the decisive clash that secured Texas’ independence from Mexico.

AUSTIN – The Public Safety Commission (PSC), along with Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Colonel Freeman F. Martin, recognized the service and heroics of several DPS personnel and citizens at the PSC meeting today at DPS Headquarters in Austin. PSC Commissioners and Colonel Martin presented two Director’s Citations and four Lifesaving Awards.
