National Wildlife Refuge celebrates grand opening of new headquarters The Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of their new headquarters on Friday, April 4 and hosted their 27th annual Boomin’ and Bloomin’ festival Saturday, April 5 through Sunday, April 6. The grand opening of the new headquarters features a visitor center with displays of all the wildlife found on the prairie, as well as a display of the endangered prairie chicken, an informational booth and an educational video about the work being done on the refuge and more.

Last week, Travis County State District Judge, Maya Guerra Gamble, ruled in favor of a motion to distribute more than $4.5 million to investors in Retirement Value, LLC (RV). The motion was filed on March 4, by Michael D. Napoli, counsel to the court-appointed receiver in control of the company—Eduardo S. Espinosa with Akerman, LLP. The Honorable Judge Gamble entered the distribution order on March 28.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Rangers to open an investigation into the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) and any affiliated entities for potential criminal activities. “Texas is a law-and-order state, and those scheming to evade law enforcement scrutiny must know justice is awaiting them,” said Governor Abbott.

AUSTIN – On Wednesday, the Texas Senate confirmed Dan Hord III and Steven H. Stodghill as members of the Public Safety Commission (PSC). These confirmations follow Hord’s appointment and Stodghill’s reappointment to the PSC by Governor Greg Abbott last year. Both of their terms will expire on Jan. 1, 2030.

The Sealy Tigers took on Royal twice this week and the Tigers handed them back-to-back losses. The first game was played on the road at Royal’s home field before coming back to the Aubrey “Mutt” Stuessel Stadium for round two.

As Walk Across Texas wraps up, Austin County families have truly exceeded expectations. With the program’s eighth week now complete, we’re proud to showcase the incredible commitment and hard work of our participants. In 2025, the families collectively walked an astounding 69,327 miles — a remarkable achievement.
