The Catholic Daughters of the Americas 54th Biennial State Convention was held on April 23 – 27 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. Attending as delegates from District 28 were: Regent Doris Sodolak and Treasurer Cindy Gassner from Court Our Lady of Faith #2607 – Frydek; Regent Iris Orellana and Member Cindy Johnson – Court St. Elizabeth #1616 – Sealy and Regent Anna Apanel of Court Queen of Angels #1538-Wallis.

Texas Veteran Commission announces Veteran Employers of the Year

Austin, TX – The Texas Veterans Commissioners approved the annual Veteran Employer of the Year awards at the quarterly commission meeting on May 15, 2025. TVC Veteran Employment Services staff nominate businesses and organizations which demonstrate a strong commitment to employing veterans and leading effective veteran employment initiatives.

Georgian National extradited from Moldova to face charges for soliciting hate crimes, planning mass Casualty attack in New York City

Georgian national Michail Chkhikvishvili, also known as Mishka, Michael, Commander Butcher, and Butcher, 21, of Tbilisi, was extradited to the United States from Moldova on May 22, and will be arraigned in federal court in Brooklyn today. Chkhikvishvili was arrested in Chiıinıu, Moldova, in July 2024 in connection with a four-count indictment returned in the Eastern District of New York charging him with soliciting hate crimes and acts of mass violence in New York City.

ACRTA awards two scholarships

The Austin County Retired Teachers Association, a local unit of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, is awarding two scholarships to local Bellville High School graduates this year. The scholarships were initiated in 2015 when the association began supporting local students interested in pursuing the teaching profession.
