Mel Eason, owner of Joy Brush Signs, recently completed her mural on the side of the Edward Jones building in downtown Sealy after seven days of work. Based out of Houston, Eason said it was the most time she had spent in Sealy although her parents live in Bellville so she wasn’t unfamiliar with Austin County. Erin Krampitz Designs contacted Joy Brush Signs and brought her out to a blank canvas to do with what she pleased. Eason built off inspiration she got while picking out a bouquet of flowers and went to work.

The Austin County Insider magazine, an affiliate of Granite Publications, had its launch party last Wednesday, Jan. 13, in downtown Sealy. The first edition is making its way around the county now and can be found at major retailers in Austin County.

Winter weather arrived in Austin County last week and brought a snow dusting to the area. Residents got out and shared their views of the winter wonderland on Facebook.

The Sealy Chamber of Commerce’s annual members banquet was rescheduled from Feb. 5 to May 21 following a decision from the board of directors’ meeting on Tuesday, Jan.

Jamie Speck sees art everywhere. A part-time art instructor for the Blinn College District since 2002, Speck turned everyday items like dryer sheets, beeswax, and can lids into pieces of art that are now on display in a prestigious Corpus Christi gallery.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hanzelka Jr. of Orchard announce the engagement of their daughter, Breanna Alexis Hanzelka, to Allan James Kovar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Kovar of Wallis. The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Lefty) Hanzelka of Wallis and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Sowa of Sealy. She is a graduate of Brazos High School and the University of Houston and is continuing her post-graduate education at Texas Women’s University in Houston with a career in Occupational Therapy. The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kovar of Wallis and the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Haedge Sr. of East Bernard. He is a graduate of Brazos High School and the University of Texas in Austin and is employed with Leedo Cabinetry in East Bernard. The couple plans to exchange vows at 2:00 p.m. on May 15 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis.
