The American Automobile Association (AAA) has launched a distracted driving awareness campaign titled Don’t Drive Intoxicated, Don’t Drive Intexticated. The message is that driving distracted can be as dangerous as driving drunk.

Austin County Investigator Rocky Bustamante recently earned top marks at the Houston Police Department Basic SWAT School. Bustamante graduated top of his class and was selected as Honor man above all other graduates. He will serve as a member of the Austin County Special Response Team in addition to his duties as an investigator according to Sheriff Jack Brandes. Zane William Frybert Litzmann and Matthias Joseph Frybert Litzmann have been honored with additional scholarships and grants while both continue their education. The Litzmann brothers, both of whom graduated from Sealy High School, are actively involved in the pursuit of their degrees at Sam Houston State University.

Yvonne Johnson describes her journey through Sealy’s publicschool desegregation as “the best of times and the worst of times.” Johnson was born in her grandparents’ home at 930 Garland Street and began her education at the Austin County Colored School on San Felipe Street. The elementary school had six rooms and five teachers to serve black students from all over the county.
