In a major win for Houston conservation, the Coastal Prairie Conservancy has permanently protected 220 acres of Three Oaks Farm just outside of Katy. This newly conserved property fills a critical piece in the heart of the Katy Prairie Preserve — a growing network of more than 19,500 acres of protected prairie, wetlands, and working lands west of Houston.

Arizona woman sentenced for $17M information technology worker fraud scheme

An Arizona woman was sentenced today to 102 months in prison for her role in a fraudulent scheme that assisted North Korean Information Technology (IT) workers posing as U.S. citizens and residents with obtaining remote IT positions at more than 300 U.S. companies. The scheme generated more than $17 million in illicit revenue for Chapman and for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea).

Hay samples due Aug. 31 for annual show

All beef cattle and hay producers are encouraged to turn in a sample of their hay for analysis at this year’s Austin County Hay Show scheduled for Oct. 3. Hay sample collection boxes and forms will be available at the following drop-off locations: Bellville Farm & Ranch, Linseisen’s Feed & Supply Inc, and Austin County Extension Office, all in Bellville; Steinhauser’s in Sealy; Bernardo Farm & Ranch in Cat Spring; 4M Feed & Ranch in New Ulm; Lindemann Store in Industry.
