Kopczynski moves on in spelling bee competition

On Jan. 31, Sealy Elementary had the pleasure and honor of hosting its first annual Scripps Spelling Bee.

Preparation for the Spelling Bee began in November in each homeroom in grades 1st through 5th.

After countless hours of study and competition within each homeroom, 30 contestants, representing their homerooms, advanced to Tuesday night’s stage. After 30 rounds and 221 words, a winner was declared.

Representing SES at the Regional competition on March 23 at the University of Houston will be Harper Kopczynski with Julian Cevallos as the school’s alternate.

Tractor team headed to state

Bellville High School congratulates its tractor tech team for placing second at the @ffa_xi Tractor Tech Contest last week.

The team consists of Donnie Smart, Chaise Richter, and Chase Hardin.

These boys have been working hard to get to this point and have qualified for the state contest at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March.

Walls named officer of year

Lt. Matt Walls with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office was awarded the Peace Officer of the Year award by the Wallis Knights of Columbus no. 3793 during their annual wild game supper. Walls is the Commander of the West Side Narcotics Task Force which services the entire county and surrounding counties.
