Easter Sunday is a day when Christians across the globe celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Data from the Pew Research Center indicates there are approximately 2.4 billion Christians across the globe, which accounts for nearly one-third of the global population.

Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, which is the Friday before Easter Sunday. Christians believe that Jesus Christ was flogged and abused in other ways en route to his crucifixion, which ultimately ended with his death. So why would such a day ever be commemorated with the word “good”?

Storybook Rescues, Inc., a not-for-profit animal rescue in Cat Spring, is looking for cat lovers. For two years now, since PetSmart opened a new store in Brenham on Highway 290, Storybook Rescues has been placing kittens and adult cats there for adoption.

Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park to meet Feb. 29

The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park will meet Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Nature Center. Volunteers help Park Rangers sustain the building, trails and grounds of the park.

Maggie B. Selman Elementary students recently competed in UIL competitions. The results and competitors are as follows: 2nd Grade Storytelling – Charlie Ehlert 3rd place, Payton Roper 4th place and Kyndal Keller 4th place. Other entrants included Sadie Minica and Peyton Parson.

The Horticulture Committee of Austin County are volunteers who serve Austin County in support of horticulture education for adults. Their mission is to provide educational programs and information and promote improvement of horticultural practices in Austin and surrounding counties.

Austin County had twenty-one (21) pecan entries move on from the county show to the East Regional Pecan Show for the 2023 crop year. There were 151 entries from 14 different counties and 52 different producers across them.

The Sealy FFA Meats Team placed 3rd at the Prairie View University CDE with Wyatt Erwin 3rd High Individual and Ansley Owen 9th HI with Jackson and Brady Burttschell.

The Floriculture Team placed 4th at PVAMU with Brooke Baber 6th High Individual, Cheyenne Schwaller, Alana Lindsay, and Avery Schalla. 

The Sealy FFA Chapter’s Applied Ag Engineering Team competed at the TAMU Invitational placing 5th in their heat and 10th overall with J Rodriguez 14th high individual, Noah Shirley, David Saldua, and Rafael Gomez.
