Jarvse Dickerson rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns in leading Brazos to a 26-20 overtime win over Nixon-Smiley last Friday in the final tune-up before the start of a rigorous district schedule. Nixon-Smiley ran out to a 14-0 halftime lead over Brazos and held a 20-7 lead as the two teams headed for the fourth quarter.
The Brazos Cougars cross country team competed in the Shiner Comanche Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Shiner. Individually, in the 3A-4A Varsity Girls race, Stephaniah Phillips placed 31st, Lily Bertrand finished 58th, and Hannah Gonzalez was 75th.
The Sealy Junior High 8th Grade Lady Tigers had their second home game of the season against the Lady Buffalos of Giddings and both teams walked away with a victory. The score of the 8th grade A team was 20-25, 25-21, and 15-10.
Take away the first half of the Sealy-Stafford matchup and the Tigers would be sitting at 3-0 heading into this week’s contest. But the first half did count and everything that could go wrong in the first half did for Sealy and Stafford took advantage to take a 28-0 halftime lead en route to a 44-24 victory over Sealy Friday night.
Sealy will once again face a stiff non-district test this Friday when the Bay City Blackcats visit TJ Mills Stadium in the final tune-up before the start of District 10-4A play. With Bay City it’ll be more of the same that we saw with Stafford,” said Sealy Head Football Coach Clint Finley.
The Brazos Cougars cross country team competed in the Region III Preview Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Huntsville. In the 1A-4A Varsity Girls race, Stephaniah Phillips placed 73rd, Lily Bertrand finished 84th , and Hannah Gonzalez was 129th.
The Brazos Cougars took care of business on their first road contest of the 2023 season with a 46-12 win over Louise last Friday night. “We had some young guys playing and they stepped up,” said Brazos Head Football Coach Ryan Roecker.
