All pre-season long, Sealy Head Football Coach Clint Finley has been saying he believed his Tigers were in a good position to start the 2023 football season. Last Friday in Brazosport, the Tigers showed how good they were ready as 21-7 halftime lead and then cruised to a 42-7 pounding of the Exporters to open the season with a statement victory.
The tournament season is over for Sealy and the Lady Tigers are sporting a strong 20-7 record. This past weekend, Sealy participated in the LCISD Battle of the Brazos Tournament and came away with a 4-2 record at the tourney.
The Brazos Cougars cross country team competed in the Brazos High School Invitational Cross-Country Meet on Saturday. The varsity girls team finished fourth in the varsity girls race with 78 points.
Brazos will take on an improving Kountze team this Friday at home with a chance to start the year 2-0. “They are big and fast and just over a year ago they were in the playoffs,” said Brazos Head Football Coach Ryan Roecker.
Sophomore quarterback Jarvse Dickerson rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns in pacing the Brazos Cougars to a 43-6 beating of Yorktown in the season opener last Friday night. Dickerson, who served as the backup quarterback last year for the Cougars, also passed for 125 yards on nine-of-14 passes.
The Sealy Lady Tigers competed in the Big Mac Aldine Tournament this weekend and came home with an impressive 8-1 record and the Gold Bracket Consolation champs. Sealy started its play last Thursday by defeating Texas City 25-18, 25-11 and then took on Spring Woods and came away with a 25-9 and 25-15 win.
The scrimmages are now in the rear-view mirror and the Sealy Tigers now have the season- opener set for this Friday in Brazosport against the always tough Exporters. “Brazosport is a very talented group,” said Sealy Head Football Coach Clint Finley.
Lady Knights Varsity Volleyball team defeated the Brookshire Royal Lady Falcons last Tuesday at Royal High School in Brookshire, 25-13, 25-16, 25-8. Senior Skyler Pyka led the charge with 13 service aces.
