In the penultimate home game of the regular season last Thursday, the Sealy Lady Tiger softball team earned a 15-0, run-rule win over Royal thanks to senior Ariel Gonzales who provided the hit that let classmate Melanie Nieto score the winning run.

The Sealy Tiger baseball team secured a 30-0 win over Royal last Thursday at home thanks in large part to the senior members of the team. Luke Kovar started the game on the mound and struck out five in three innings before Bass Blundell pitched the final two innings of relief.

Nine Sealy High School student-athletes were recently honored by the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Army National Guard with academic all-state distinction. Five tennis athletes and four Tiger soccer players cracked lists that were split up into four levels: Elite, first team, second team and honorable mention.

The Brazos Cougarette track team finished third at the District 24-3A Championship in East Bernard last week and had five individual athletes plus the 4x400-meter relay team qualify for the area meet this week.

This week in Brazos sports, a trio of Cougarette tennis players competed in the regional tournament and both track teams had representatives at the district meet. Last week in Brazos sports, the baseball and softball teams both swept Hempstead and Hitchcock.

Growing up, the only way Clayton Fritsch’s dream of being a paid professional athlete could become real had to wait until after his collegiate career. However, recent legislation has opened the door for college student-athletes to benefit monetarily from their name, image and likeness through marketing opportunities.

After it closed the end of the first round of district play with a win, the Sealy Lady Tiger softball team dropped its first two contests to begin round two of play within District 24-4A. Sealy fell 8-3 on the road in Navasota last Friday then lost 14-3 to El Campo at home earlier this week Monday.

The Sealy Tiger baseball team rode the momentum of a bounce-back win over Wharton into a 6-3 road win in Navasota last Tuesday evening. However, earlier this week, Sealy dropped its second game within District 24-4A, 6-5 in nine innings to El Campo Monday night at home.
