Sealy’s Fantasy of Lights to usher in holiday season

Sealy’s beloved 39th Annual Fantasy of Lights Celebration returns Dec. 4–6, 2025, and this year, it carries a message deeper and more powerful than twinkling lights and holiday cheer. This year’s theme, “A Wishful Christmas,” was chosen in honor of six local children who are currently waiting for their wishes to be granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Their names may not be known to all, but their stories — and their courage — represent the heart of this community.

Austin County collaboration promotes early detection, preventive care

The last week of October, 27 Austin County residents took an important step toward protecting their health by receiving mammograms through “The Rose.” This opportunity was made possible through the Friendto- Friend educational program, presented by the Austin County Family and Consumer Sciences Advisory Board in partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Department of State Health Services, and Mid-Coast Medical Center of Bellville. Their involvement helped strengthen the program’s focus on breast health awareness and the vital role that early detection plays in saving lives.

Abbott announces NRG Energy Expansion in Chambers County

AUSTIN — Governor Greg Abbott announced that an NRG Energy, Inc. (NRG) natural gas facility to be constructed at the existing NRG Cedar Bayou power production complex in Chambers County has been designated as a qualified project under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program. The new 721 megawatt (MW) natural gas power plant represents an estimated $936 million in capital investment in Texas.

Soil campaign set for Austin County
