Multiple vehicle accident with school bus on Hwy 36

Body

A multiple vehicle accident involving a school bus took place today, May 18, just after 4 p.m. on State Highway 36, a few miles North of Sealy.

Persons involved were transported via Emergency Medical Services from the scene. Parents were arriving at the scene to pick up their children.

More information will be released on this incident as it is received.

Wallis KJZT #22 clean church

The Wallis KJZT #22 senior and junior members cleaned the Grotto at Guardian Angel Church in Wallis on Saturday, May 7th. That same evening and the following morning the juniors held a bake sale outside of the church to raise funds for scholarships and upcoming projects. They also sold raffle tickets for camp, which will be held in Ledbetter, TX June 26th -29th, where the raffle winners will be announced. Austin County Retired Teachers Association awards three scholarships

The Austin County Retired Teachers Association is awarding three scholarships to local Austin County high school graduates this year. The scholarships were initiated in 2015 when the association began supporting local students interested in pursuing the teaching profession. This year’s recipients are graduates from Bellville High School, Brazos High School, and Sealy High School.

Austin County Livestock Association Annual Meeting, June 2 The 72nd Annual Meeting of the Austin County Livestock Association will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Cat Spring Agricultural Hall in Cat Spring, Texas. The Annual Meeting will follow with registration starting at 5:30 pm.

Austin County 4-H Wins Big at District

Austin County 4-H competed at the District 11 Livestock Judging Contest on Saturday, April 23. The contest is broken into three age divisions consisting of Juniors (grades third through fifth), Intermediates (grades sixth through eighth), and Seniors (grades ninth through twelfth). All competitors judge and place eight classes consisting of market steers, breeding heifers with EPD data, market lambs, market goats, and market hogs. Intermediate team members then presented two sets of oral reasons, and senior members presented four sets of reasons to Texas A&M University Judging Team Members, who served as the officials for the contest. Teams were comprised of the following members: Junior Team Claire Schneider, Chloe Luedke, Ethan Schumann, and Luke Schumann; Intermediate Team Jackson Vykukal, Darcy Luedke, Layne Malinowski, and Levi Malinowski; Senior Team Lexi Mikeska, Ashleigh Sherrer, and Kash Krueger; and Senior Team Brooke Diezi, Baylie Macat, and Taylor Eckelberg. Austin County 4-H teams clean swept the contest winning Champion Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Team Titles, were named the Overall County Sweepstakes Winner, and received the District 11 4-H Livestock Judging Contest Sweep- stakes Winner Traveling Trophy.

Woodman donates flags to ACSO

On May 6, Woodman Financial Representative Dorothy Dunsworth and Chapter President Mike Barnett presented the Austin County Sheriff’s Office with United States and Texas flags to be displayed on the flagpole at the Sheriff’s Office. “The Austin County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the flag donation and support we receive from WoodmanLife in Bellville,” says Sheriff Jack Brandes.
