The unofficial results for the May 24 election have been announced. The only Austin County race in this election was a run-off for the Republican candidate who will compete to be the Texas State Representative for District 85 in November.

Amass shooting May 24 at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde raised alarms nationwide about protecting campuses, prompting Austin County school districts to double down on security to ensure students can safely come and go to class.

The Austin County Rotary Club displayed 50 United States Flags at Levine Park on Monday for Memorial Day. Funding for these flags comes from sponsorship subscriptions and the flags are also displayed for Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, 911 Remembrance Day, Veteran’s Day, and President’s Day. The city councilmembers who won the May 7 election were sworn in at the Wallis City Council meeting on May 18, and the council approved ordering two new police cars from Enterprise. Joel Prado was newly elected to the council, and Clark Main, Jr.

On Tuesday, May 17, the Austin County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding the possible location of stolen property at 3449 Oil Field Road, in Bellville. The owner of the stolen construction equipment was in contact with Fort Bend County Sheriff’s investigators, who eventually contacted the Austin County Sheriff’s Office.
