In the April 28 edition of The Sealy News it was incorrectly reported that the current bonds the Sealy City Council are considering would be placed on a ballot for a vote by citizens. These Certificates of Obligation (bonds) for the purpose of necessary public works projects do not require an election vote by residents and will be voted upon solely by the city council. According to the legal Notice of Intention to Issue Certificates published by the city, that vote will take place on June 21, 2022, during the regular city council meeting. Vegetable contest set

BELLVILLE — Do you think you have the best vegetables or the biggest tomato? If so, show off your prizewinning garden veggies Saturday, June 11, at the Home Grown Vegetable Contest and Program hosted by the Horticulture Committee of Austin County and Linseisen’s Feed & Supply Inc. The contest is open to the public, with no entry fee and no age limit.

SISD board adds staff

Teachers at all four campuses in the Sealy Independent School District will have new laptop computers for the 2022-2023 school year. The school board approved the purchase of 225 laptops with docking stations from Dell to replace the current desktop computers in classrooms, which are used for instruction by educators.

A NEW CHAPTER

Moms with toddlers have a new room designated especially for them as part of sweeping improvements made to the Virgil & Josephine Gordon Memorial Library. In addition to the new children’s area, the Sealy library also has a new roof, remodeled bathrooms, an upgraded computer system and new staffers as part of the “face-lift.” The Sealy Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting April 24 to herald the library’s “new chapter.” Tours were given, Sealy High School band ensembles performed and children enjoyed a bounce house.
