Blinn to participate in grant

Based on outstanding accomplishments and dedication to student success, the Blinn College District has been selected to participate in Talent Strong Texas Pathways. The $16 million, five-year statewide economic mobility grant administered by the Texas Success Center is designed to increase the number of credentialed Texans prepared for high-demand careers that offer a living wage.

City must follow laws for HOTS funds

Sealy Mayor Carolyn Bilski said the city must follow the laws of the state of Texas when it deals with HOT funds and that was the main reason that the city has cut back funding for the Sealy Community Foundation’s Sealybration event. The foundation announced last week that this year’s Sealybration was being canceled due to a lack of funding from the city.

City council denies fence variance

The Sealy City Council unanimously denied a variance application from Steinhauser’s for the installation of a 15-foot fence. The proposed fence was to mitigate the spread of feed dust and debris from the loading area. There have been complaints from nearby residents and filings with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality TCEQ concerning the dust blanket covering homes and cars.
