ACRTA to discuss Prop 9 at next meeting

The Austin County Retired Teachers Association will have their next meeting Thursday, Nov. 9, at Tony’s Restaurant in Sealy at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving will be the theme for the meeting with updates on current legislation and results of the upcoming state propositions to be voted on Nov. 7. Proposition 9 is about a cost-of-living adjustment for all Texas Retirement System annuitants which are people who retired from employment in public schools.

US Marine Corps Celebrating 248th Birthday Nov. 10 The U.S. Marine Corps will be celebrating the 248th birthday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. The celebration will take place at Tony’s Restaurant, 1629 Meyer St. The public is welcome to join the celebration as well, no charge. Grant will improve drug use data, prevention

A nearly $4 million grant will help Texas implement policies and programs to prevent the use of dangerous drugs like fentanyl. The Texas Department of State Health Services and Texas Health and Human Services Commission are partnering to create new tools to analyze the causes and effects of drug poisonings and then use that information to develop science-based strategies to prevent drug use and poisonings.

Abbott urges Texans to tackle school choice

Texas Governor Greg Abbott urged Texans to voice their support to expand education freedom for all Texas families at a Parents Matter Tailgate with over 1,000 parents, students, and other school choice advocates in San Antonio. The Governor called on Texans to get in the game and contact their legislators to pass school choice, before performing the coin toss at the Harmony School of Innovation – Sugar Land vs Cornerstone Christian Academy football game.
