Abbott, Paxton offer different District 85 endorsements

Governor Greg Abbott endorsed State Representative Stan Kitzman for re-election Jan. 17 during Kitzman’s campaign event at the Brookwood Cafe in Brookshire.

The governor made his first appearance at Brookwood in over seven years to support the Texas House District 85 representative’s re-election campaign, making it very clear when speaking at last Wednesday’s event that he was there for one reason and reason only.

Extension office to host applicator training classes

If you plan on using a state limited use or state restricted use pesticide, such as Grazon P+D, 2 4-D, Weedmaster, etc., and need a license, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County will be hosting several Private Applicator Training classes during 2024 at the Austin County Extension Office, 800 E Wendt St., Bellville. Books and study materials for the course may be purchased ahead of time at the Extension Office for $50.

Nelson kicks off voter education tour prior to primaries

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson launched her 2024 voter education tour last week with numerous stops throughout Texas. The tour is designed to make sure Texans know where to go for official voting information, including vote-by-mail requirements and the acceptable forms of photo ID voters can present at the polls.

HHSC encourages cancer screenings during Cervical Health Awareness Month

As part of National Cervical Health Awareness Month this January, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is encouraging women to get screened for cervical cancer. “Routine cervical cancer screening is the most effective way to detect cervical cancer early,” said Faith Sandberg-Rodriguez, associate commissioner of Family Clinical Services at HHSC.
