Austin County shines at state pecan show

The Texas State Pecan Show for pecans grown in 2023 was judged on July 14, in conjunction with the Texas Pecan Grower’s Association annual conference in San Marcos. Dr. Warren Chatwin and Mr. Braden Tondre, USDA-ARS Pecan Breeding & Genetics Program in College Station, Texas, judged the 187 entries divided into 42 variety classes. Seventy-five entities—individual growers or commercial farms—representing 32 Texas counties, previously placed at their respective regional competitions, qualifying them for the state competition.

Roecker tenders resignation at Brazos ISD

Brazos Interim Superintendent Dave Plymale said the BISD Board of Trustees approved appointing Audie Jackson as the Interim Athletic Director/Head Football Coach, effective immediately.

Jackson, who joined BISD this summer as the defensive coordinator, brings a wealth of experience to our district. With 30 years of coaching experience across various schools in Texas, Jackson's expertise is a tremendous asset to our athletic programs. Notably, he served as the athletic coordinator and head football coach at Willis ISD from 2008 to 2017.

TEMPLE – Agricultural operations in Texas have been significantly impacted by Hurricane Beryl and related weather events. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has technical and financial assistance available to help farmers and livestock producers recover from these adverse weather events. Impacted producers should contact their local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure, and livestock losses and damages.

DPS opens DL office at Blinn

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), in partnership with Blinn College, announces the opening of a temporary driver license (DL) office at the Blinn College Student Center in Brenham. Beginning Monday, July 15, Texans may visit this temporary office for full, in-person DL services. Members of the Texas Highway Patrol will also office at this location.
