The Sealy Lady Tigers opened district play with a resounded 50-35 win over Wharton last Tuesday night. Wharton came out strong against Sealy and took an early lead in the contest.

With district play looming ahead, Sealy prepped for the beginning of play with a nice 40-32 victory over Caldwell last Friday night. Sealy now stands at 9-3 on the season.

The Brazos Cougarettes started off the district girls’ basketball season at 1-1 after splitting a pair of games to open the season. Brazos opened district play Dec.

The Brazos Cougars opened district play with a 51-39 win over Boling to move to 1-0 in district. Brazos used a strong pressing defense to defeat the Bulldogs.

The Sealy Lady Tigers dropped a disappointing non-district contest to Schulenburg 37-36 last week as district play looms ahead. Sealy jumped out to a 9-6 in the first quarter but Schulenburg came back to pull to within a point of the lead at 17-16 at the halftime break.

After finishing a strong 2022 football season, the Brazos Cougars are reaping the rewards with the District 14-3A with numerous selections on the all-district teams that were recently announced. From the opening snap in August, Brazos followed the direction of his head football coach and a philosophy of a “band of brothers” and it showed strong during a district season which had its highs and lows but finished with the Cougars making the playoffs.

The Faith Academy Knights and Lady Knights held their Fall Sports Banquet in the Beth Keaton Gymnasium Dec. 5. The evening was kicked off with a greeting to athletes and parents by Athletic Director Trey Carter. The opening prayer was led by senior Chesney Johnston.

The finalists for the Coach Ed Runner of the Year award have been announced with Brazos and Sealy cross country entrants making the round of cuts. Gavin Almaguer of Sealy and Brazos’ Wesley Holub, Esmeralda Garcia and Rubi Garcia making it to the final four for the annual award.
