LIONS TOP TIGERS

For the Sealy Tigers not only nearly two and a half quarters, hung with but led the Class 5A Lake Creek Lions on the road Friday night in non-district action. Down the stretch, Sealy suffered multiple injuries and Lake Creek’s depth eventually took over to win 41-34, capped by a 21-point fourth quarter.

Lady Tigers take second in Wallis

The Sealy Lady Tiger cross country team took second place in the team competition from the 15th annual Brazos Invitational last Saturday morning in Wallis. Head Cross Country Coach Anthony Branch said through the first four runners, Sealy had a lead over perennial state-qualifying East Bernard but the squads’ fifth runners proved to be the difference-maker and left the Lady Tigers in second.

Non-district winds down

The Sealy Lady Tiger volleyball squad had two road contests last week and earned a split after it fell to La Grange in five sets and swept West Columbia to move to 14-17 overall. Sealy was scheduled to play Monday in Conroe but with Tropical Storm Nicholas looming in the gulf, the Lady Tigers’ penultimate non-district contest was canceled.

The with 22 unanswered firstquarter Sealy Tigers opened their season points en route to a 43-14 win over the Brazosport Exporters last Friday night on Mark A. Chapman Field at T.J. Mills Stadium to enact revenge from the previous meeting.

Sealy wins Burton Relays

The Sealy Tiger cross country teams came away with both varsity team championships from the Burton Relays last Saturday on the road. Two teams of four Tigers and Lady Tigers were constructed by head coach Anthony Branch and assistant coach Danielle Eschenburg and while the first teams finished first in the relay races, the second teams were not far behind.

STARTING ON THE RIGHT FOOT

The Sealy Tiger football team started its season on the right foot with a 43-14 win over the Brazosport Exporters Friday. Before the game, Special Olympics athletes were honored for their efforts and got to run out of the Tiger tunnel to T.J. Mills Stadium’s cheering fans, raised the American flag as the anthem was playing and sent a few representatives out to midfield for the opening coin toss.
